BOSTON (AP) — Paul Stastny scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Ottawa Senators 7-5 on Sunday night.
Erik Johnson, Matt Duchene, Carl Soderberg, Nikita Zadorov and Gabriel Landeskog also scored as Colorado won for the third time in five games. Avalanche rookie Spencer Martin finished with 26 saves.
Senators rookie center Brady Tkachuk scored three goals, and Ottawa’s Thomas Chabot and Mike Hoffman each had a goal and two assists. Anders Nilsson stopped 22 shots.
Johnson opened the scoring and then Landeskog scored 25 seconds into the second to put Colorado ahead 2-0. The Avalanche were trying to win their second straight game after a six-game losing streak, tying their longest skid since March 31-April 7, 2015.
After a scoreless third period, Stastny won the game by beating Nilsson with a shot from the top of the left circle with 12:09 left.
Zadorov then added an empty-net goal.
Tkachuk made it 5-3 with a goal 1:15 into the third, then scored again with just under 11 minutes left.
Stastny had a two-goal game, giving him 30 goals for the second time in his nine-year career.
Ottawa has lost three of four and four of five.
Zadorov opened the scoring when he fired a slap shot from the blue line past Nilsson 1:13 into the game.
Tkachuk tied it 2:04 later on the power play when he fired a shot past Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov from inside the right circle.
The Avalanche were up 2-1 when Soderberg made it 3-1 with a one-timer from the left circle, his first goal since Feb. 11. The 27-year-old Swede was acquired by Colorado in a trade with the Florida Panthers on Jan. 31.
NOTES: Senators C Nate Thompson missed his second straight game with an undisclosed injury. … Senators F Mark Stone is day to day. He missed Sunday’s game after scoring the winning goal Friday in overtime in a 4-3 victory over the Bruins.
