A coyote is on the loose after biting two people in a North York park, according to the city of Toronto.

The dogs in Pelham Parkway Park had their fur removed from their back legs, prompting police to tweet the image, saying the dog bites were “unusual”.

It is believed to be the first case of a coyote going after people in Canada.

The city announced that the animal was not dangerous and wanted the public to report any sightings of the coyote.

Police appealed for the coyote to be captured and relocated.

“Police advise that it is safe to let your dog walk in your neighbourhood. Please exercise common sense,” the police force said on Twitter.
